The article analyzes the integration of digital technologies in higher education institutions in Quito from a multidisciplinary perspective that combines pedagogical, technological, organizational and socio‑cultural dimensions. A sequential explanatory mixed‑methods design is adopted, combining the analysis of open higher education datasets in Ecuador with student surveys and semi‑structured interviews with faculty members and educational innovation managers. The quantitative phase focuses on a sample of 400 students from public and private universities in Quito, while the qualitative phase involves instructors from different disciplines and IT and innovation unit leaders, with the aim of understanding patterns of use, perceptions and the impact of digital technologies on academic performance and students’ learning experience. Findings reveal a high adoption of institutional learning platforms, collaboration tools and videoconferencing, together with intermediate‑to‑high digital competences in information search and online communication, but weaker skills in advanced content production, digital security and critical information use. A positive association is observed between a higher digital integration index and better grade point averages, although this relationship depends on pedagogical mediation quality, infrastructural conditions and institutional support. At the same time, digital divides related to socioeconomic factors, institutional type and connectivity quality persist and affect educational equity. The study concludes that digital transformation in higher education in Quito offers significant opportunities for innovation and quality improvement, but demands comprehensive policies on digital inclusion, competence development and strategic governance in order to prevent the deepening of existing inequalities.
